VCU’s Pace Center Hosts Space for Grief Following Shootings

Our friends at the Pace Center at Virginia Commonwealth University shared the below community invitation with us. On June 6, 2023, two people were killed and others injured in a shooting outside the Altria Theater, site of a high school graduation ceremony.

"You may, by now, have received news of the shooting that occurred tonight in Monroe Park, across the street from the Pace Center. At this time, we wanted to send a brief note to let our students and supporters know that all Pace and Highland Support Project staff are unharmed and were out of the building when the shooting occurred.

As we begin to grieve, we invite all those who feel they need a space to be with one another in this time of tragedy to join the Pace staff for "Pause & Reflect" on Friday, June 9th at 10 am. We will pause to remember the lives lost and reflect with one another as information from today's events continue to unfold.

We believe that unprecedented events such as this should be faced in community. Please join us on Friday in the Pace Center's Sanctuary to grieve and process, and know that we hold all those who are grieving in the light."

The Pace Center is located at 700 West Franklin Street.

The Pace Center is an inclusive, multicultural, VCU community. Pace is a place where students feel their unique stories and gifts are valued. As a ministry of the United Methodist Church, we believe all are created to live in deep relationship with one another, not in isolation. We also believe every individual has been created with infinite value and an important role to play in their community.
