Community of Ministry and Worship

Pastors today face diverse issues that make it difficult for them to thrive in ministry. In 2017, Presbytery of the James began a process to learn about these issues and help pastors succeed. The result was the formation of a program in February 2018 to connect pastors in similar stages and venues of ministry together.

Pastors who have been ordained fewer than nine years may apply to join the Community of Ministry and Worship for one year. Participants meet monthly from August to May, growing in preaching and worship leadership, as well as enhancing stewardship, administrative, educational, and pastoral care and counseling skills. Due to COVID, most gatherings have been virtual via Zoom.

The Revs. Gary Charles, pastor of Cove Church, and Kate Fiedler, associate pastor of Second Church Richmond, facilitate conversation at the meetings and serve as role models and resources for the group.

A fifth cohort will begin in August 2022. To request to join, contact the moderators.
