Pastors today face diverse issues that make it difficult for them to thrive in ministry. In 2017, Presbytery of the James began a process to learn about these issues and help pastors succeed. The result was the formation of a program in February 2018 to connect pastors in similar stages and venues of ministry together.
The first cohort to meet in the new Community of Ministry and Worship program is pastors who have been ordained less than seven years. The nine participants meet monthly, growing in preaching and worship leadership, as well as enhancing stewardship, administrative, educational, and pastoral care and counseling skills. The Revs. Drs. Jill Duffield, editor and publisher of The Presbyterian Outlook, and Gary Charles, pastor of Cove Presbyterian Church, facilitate conversation at the meetings and serve as role models and resources for the group.
